Produce will be for sale as
available. Last year we tried four
large gardens with very little success.
We simply we not prepared for the excessive drought, weeds, deer and
insect damage nor our general lack of soil fertility. This year we have decided to concentrate on a much smaller area. In fact our one garden this year is smaller
that the smallest one we had last year.
We began our preparations much earlier and they were much more
extensive. We hope (pray) this small
area will produce far more than our attempt last year but we are not certain
enough to promise anything. We did
plant several fruit trees last year at our orchard by the pond. However, these trees are still very young
and we don’t think we will see any fruit for a couple of years. We plan to add a few trees each year in
various locations.
Our general plan is to restore the
fertility of our land by concentrating on poultry and livestock. Over the years, their manure will rebuild
our topsoil in the most natural way. We
have seen a difference already and are excited about the long term
potential. We would love to speed
things up with organic soil amendments, but these are very expensive. We may get to the point with our produce
sales that we can justify the expense, but for now we will do things the slow
way.
